Build a Winning Hearthstone Paladin Deck

Hearthstone Paladin Background

Just like in World of Warcraft, the Hearthstone Paladin can tank, deal damage, and heal. Here’s the Paladin murloc deck build I used to obtain 500 wins and earn a gold Paladin.

1 Avenge – A common secret, Avenge gives a random friendly minion +3/+2 when another friendly minion dies. This is a great secret to hold at the beginning of the game, as you can buff a Truesilver Champion or low-cost murloc.

1 Blessing of Wisdom – A common spell, Blessing of Wisdom causes you to draw a card anytime the affected minion attacks. I would recommend playing this card on an opponent minion, as it’ll draw aggro on a friendly minion. Opponents will often not attack with the affected minion.

1 Competitive Spirit – An uncommon secret, Competitive Spirit grants all minions on the table +1/+1 at the start of your turn. If you draw this card at the beginning, return it to your pile. The more minions you have on the table; the more useful it is.

1 Noble Sacrifice – A common secret, Noble Sacrifice summons a 2/1 Defender minion as the new target whenever an enemy minion or hero attacks. This is a useful secret at any point in the game, and especially powerful when combined with other secrets.

1 Redemption – A common secret, when a minion dies, Redemption bringsit back to life with 1 health. This is a useful spell at any point of the game, regardless of which minion is ressurrected.

1 Sacred Trial – A common secret, when your opponent has 3 minions on the table and summons another, Sacred Trial destroys it. The minion will still get off a battlecry, and the spell doesn’t affect minions summoned via spells or battlecry.

1 Grimscale Oracle (x2) – A 1/1 minion, Grimscale Oracle is a murloc that gives every other murloc (on either side of the table) +1 attack. Don’t get caught up waiting for the perfect time to play this card. It’s just a 1-cost minion that will eventually be rezzed with Anyfin Can Happen.

1 Murloc Tidecaller (x2) – An uncommon minion, Murloc Tidecaller is a 1/2 murloc that gains +1 attack anytime a murloc is played. This should almost always be the first murloc played, and is especially powerful when drawn at the beginning of the game.

1 Sir Finley Mrrgglton – A Legendary minion from The League of Explorers adventure. This 1/3 murloc pulls up 3 options for a new hero power. I typically lean toward Shaman totems, Priest healing, or Druid armor/attack.

2 Equality – An uncommon spell, Equality changes all minions health to 1. This is an especially useful endgame spell and should be shuffled back into your deck if drawn at the start of the match. Keep in mind your minions health is also changed to 1, so be careful how you use it.

2 Bluegill Warrior (x2) – A 2/1 minion with charge, Bluegill Warrior is an essential murloc card in a Paladin deck. When casting Anyfin Can Happen, murlocs with charge are the only ones that can attack immediately.

2 Murloc Tidehunter – A 2/1 minion, Murloc Tidehunter’s battlecry is to summon a 1/1 Murloc Scout. This is a useful card at the beginning of the game, as you get two minions for only 2 mana. It’s also great for increasing the Murloc Tidecaller and Old Murk-Eye’s attack.

3 Divine Favor – An uncommon spell, Divine Spirit costs 3 mana and allows you to draw cards until you have as many as your opponent. This is a vital card for a Paladin murloc deck, though it’s not advisable to have two in your hand in case your opponent plays their cards faster than you. It’s great for giving you card advantage and allowing you to play low-cost minions with no regard.

3 Aldor Peacekeeper – An uncommon minion, Aldor Peacekeeper is a 3/3 minion with a battlecry that changes an enemy minion’s attack to 1. This is a powerful minion against end-game and taunt minions, and can neutralize Priest spells. Aldor Peacekeeper has gotten me out of a lot of tight spots.

3 Coldlight Oracle – An uncommon minion, Coldlight Oracle is a 2/2 murloc with a battlecry that causes both players to draw 2 cards. This murloc is a common component of Rogue decks meant to defeat opponents by overdrawing cards, but it’s useful in this Paladin murloc deck because of all the low-cost cards.

3 Coldlight Seer – An uncommon minion, Coldlight Seer is a 2/3 murloc that grants all murlocs +2 health. This is one of the most powerful murloc cards pre-Anyfin. Even if you only have 1 or 2 other murlocs, it can help give you table advantage.

3 Murloc Warleader – A rare minion, Murloc Warleader is a 3/3 murloc that gives all other murlocs +2/+1 for as long as it’s on the table. This murloc draws a lot of aggro and is typically the first minion killed on the table. Don’t get too stuck on saving it for the right time, as its death superpowers Anyfin Can Happen.

4 Truesilver Champion – A 4/2 Paladin weapon, Truesilver Champion restores +2 health to your champion when you attack. It’s the only healing I use on this deck build in order to focus on fast-attacking murlocs and secrets.

4 Consecration – A 4-cost spell, Consecration deals 2 damage to all enemies, including both minions and the hero. Don’t be tempted to use this too early, as it’s an easy way to turn the tables of the game. It can clear the table of Shaman totems, Mage mirror images, and, when combined with Equality, end-game minions.

4 Murloc Knight – A common minion, Murloc Knight is a 3/4 murloc that summons a random murloc anytime you use your hero power. Although it can be used as early as round 3 (with a coin), I save it until I’m able to actually use the inspire power. Which murloc is summoned is often a good sign of how strong your deck is compared to your opponent’s. Blizzard’s programming often penalizes you for having a strong deck or helps you when you have a weak one.

4 Old Murk-Eye – A Legendary minion, Old Murk-Eye is a 2/4 murlocs with charge that gains +1 attack for every murloc on the table (even enemy murlocs). Old Murk-Eye is the most powerful murloc and is obtained by unlocking Bluegill Warrior, Grimscale Oracle, Murloc Raider, Murloc Tidehunter, Coldlight Oracle, Coldlight Seer, Murloc Tidecaller, and Murloc Warleader. Old Murk-Eye is also the cheapest Legendary minion to unlock at 700 dust, as all but the last 4 can be unlocked through the tutorial.

5 Bolvar Fordragon – A Legendary minion, Bolvar Fordragon starts at 1/7, but while he’s in your hand, every friendly minion that dies adds +1 attack. If you draw Fordragon at the beginning of the game, hold onto him, as all those low-cost minions (including those summoned by secrets and hero powers) feed him. To be safe against a Priest, play this card as soon as it hits 4 attack.

6 Avenging Wrath – A Rare spell, Avenging Wrath deals 8 damage to random enemies, one hit at a time. This is a great card to clear the table or finish a hero with. I especially enjoy using it against a Mage with Ice Block as it pulls their health down to 1 before they become immune.

6 Mysterious Challenger – A Rare minion, Mysterious Challenger is a 6/6 minion that puts one of each secret from your deck into the battlefield, until you reach the max of 6. This is an essential Paladin card, as it can single-handedly turn a game around or at least keep you alive until you can play Anyfin Can Happen.

8 Tirion Fordring – A Legendary minion, Tirion Fordring is a 6/6 minion with taunt and divine shield. When killed, Fordring summons a 5/3 weapon, so be sure to use up your Truesilver Champion before it dies. Savvy players will save a silence or transmute for Fordring, so prepare to have it neutralized more often than not. Still, Tirion Fordring is a powerful card in your Paladin deck, and I’ve had more success with than without it in my murloc deck.

10 Anyfin Can Happen – An uncommon spell, Anyfin Can Happen summons 7 murlocs that died this game, whether friendly or your opponent’s. This is a powerful end-game spell that resurrects all the murlocs killed at the beginning of the game. Murlocs with charge are the most useful, and it’s not often that this spell doesn’t end the game.
