San Diego Comic Con International 2016 Trailers

San Diego Comic Con is known more than others because of all the trailers for the latest Hollywood comic book releases, and 2016 was no different.

Here are all the trailers you missed if you weren’t there.

DC

Justice League

In the Justice League trailer, we see Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) recruiting Barry Allen/Flash (Ezra Miller), Diana Prince/Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Arthur Curry/Aquaman (Jason Momoa), and Victor Stone/Cyborg (Ray Fisher) over “Icky Thump” by The White Stripes.

Whether or not this movie can erase the bad taste in the mouths of audiences and critics left by Batman v Superman remains to be seen, but it looks like it’ll be at least one more 3-day-long movie before we’ll get to see the kind of action we saw in both Avengers movies and Captain America: Civil War.

Suicide Squad

Although last year’s Suicide Squad trailer was infinitely more hyped due to the reveal of Jared Leto’s Joker, this year’s latest trailer, a month away from the movie’s release, did reveal Goliath and Samson as possible villains in the movie.

The trailer seems more focused on the music than anything. It starts with Twenty 0ne Pilots “Heathens” and switches to “Sucker for Pain” featuring Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa, Imagine Dragons, Logic, Ty Dolla $ign, and X Ambassadors before changing to “Purple Lamborghini” by Rick Ross & Skrillex and showing a great ass shot of Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie).

Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman’s solo spinoff film shows off the Amazonian background of Diana Prince (Gardot) as she leaves Themyscira with Steve Trevor (Chris Pine), who appears to have washed up on the shores of her island home, and heads to what appears to be WWII-era Europe.

The trailer spends its time contrasting Wonder Woman’s fictional world with our real world and is clearly set before the events of BvS. Prince is at war in both worlds, so it looks like this movie may be more action-packed than Justice League.

The Flash – Season 3

In season 3, CW’s “The Flash” teases the negative effects of Barry Allen’s (Grant Gustin) decision to go back in time and kill Reverse Flash to save his mom.

Now in the Flashpoint timeline, Joe (Jesse L. Martin), Iris (Candice Patton), Cisco (Carlos Valdes) Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker), and Wally West (Keiynan Lonsdale), who is Kid Flash in the new timeline, are much different than in previous seasons.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow

Sharing a universe with “Flash” and “Arrow” (and possibly “Supergirl”), “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow”‘s season 2’s trailer picks up where season 1 left off, with Rex Tyler (Patrick J Adams) from The Justice Society of America introducing himself.

Vandal Savage is dead (killed simultaneously in 1958, 1976, and 2021), as are the Time Masters, and The Legion of Doom, a supervillian team, is set to be the new antagonists for Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) and the Waverider crew.

Marvel

Legion

Set to air on FX in 2017, “Legion” is part of Marvel’s X-universe. David Haller (Dan Stevens) is a schizophrenic man who also happens to be a mutant. Each of his personalities is attached to a different aspect of his powers.

In the comics, Legion is the son of Charles Xavier, though it’s unlikely this relationship will carry over into the TV series. What does appear to carry over is the multiple personalities of Haller as he describes switching places with Syd (Rachel Keller), who’s likely been absorbed into his mind as another personality.

Judging by the trailer, “Legion” will take a much darker tone than we’re used to seeing from Marvel, which is refreshing for a TV series.

Marvel’s Luke Cage

Set to Ol Dirty Bastard’s “Shimmy Shimmy Ya,” the trailer for “Marvel’s Luke Cage” gives us a look at Luke Cage (Mike Colter) ripping a car door off to use as a battering ram, shield, and weapon as he beats the living crap out of a gun-toting gang.

Pop (Frankie Faison) and Cornell Stokes/Cottonmouth (Mahersala Ali) start and end the trailer, respectively with quick sound bytes.

“Marvel’s Luke Cage” is set in the same universe as “Jessica Jones.” The series is set to premiere on Netflix on September 30, 2016 with 13 episodes.

Marvel’s Iron Fist

More of a teaser than a trailer, “Marvel’s Iron Fist” is another Marvel/Netflix series collaboration where we’ll see Danny Rand/Iron Fist (Finn Jones) at some point in 2017. This series will be a continuation of “Marvel’s Luke Cage,” and all we get to see from the teaser is a quick wall punch to show Rand’s iron fist.

Marvel’s The Defenders

The final part of Marvel’s miniseries collaboration with Netflix, “Marvel’s The Defenders” teaser is set to release in late 2017 and shows us literally nothing but some graphics set to Nirvana’s “Come As You Are.” Clearly Marvel is more focused on TV in the upcoming year after a busy 2016 in theaters.

We do get a sound byte of “You think the four of you can save New York? You can’t even save yourselves.”

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 4

In another teaser, “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. shows a quick animation of Ghost Rider. Seeing Gabriel Luna bring this character into the MCU (especially through the S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series) is enough to make any Marvel fan happy (sans Nicholas Cage, who slaughtered the character in previous movie adaptations).

Miscellaneous

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

The trailer for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is very reminiscent of previous Harry Potter films, though this time focused on different characters. The trailer shows a few goblins and partial glimpses of magical beasts set to a mix of the Harry Potter theme song.

This time set in 1926 America, Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) shows up in New York City with a suitcase full of magical creatures who begin attacking muggles (known as no-majs in America). He then teams up with Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler) to capture them a la “13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo.” Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them looks to be the perfect way to get over the horrible result of the 2016 election in November.

Star Trek Discovery

For Star Trek fans, a teaser for the next installment, Star Trek Discovery shows a teaser of the flight of the U.S.S. Discovery ahead of its January 2017 premiere.

Kong: Skull Island

The next King Kong movie comes to us with Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Samuel L Jackson, John Goodman, and John C Reilly, who crash land on Skull Island and must fight for survival. Jackson plays a no-nonsense soldier and Goodman plays the rich guy responsible for bringing them there.

The action in Kong: Skull Island looks to outshine even Peter Jackson’s 2005 version, and, from what we can see of Kong, he’s much bigger than in previous versions. The action in this movie looks amazing so far, and we still have quite a bit of time before its March 2017 release.
