17 Most Anticipated Hollywood Movies of 2017

We’re already running full speed ahead with 2017, and although I was side tracked by a few problems with a shady lease, I’m up and running at a new property.

Movies are always a great way to distract yourself from hard times, and it occurs to me I missed my most anticipated list during the chaos that was this past holiday season.

So although we’re a little bit late, here’s the most anticipated movies set to release in 2017.

17. Kong: Skull Island

Kong Skull Island

King Kong is a classic American franchise, with the original still being considered by many critics as one of the greatest films ever made. While Peter Jackson and Jack Black’s reboot was a noble effort that showcased how amazing the now-dead HDDVD format truly was.

This reboot with Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman, and Brie Larson is not only a reboot of the Kong series, but the second film in Legendary Picture’s four-film Godzilla-Kong film series. Except even more amazing visuals this time around.

16. Power Rangers

Power Rangers 2017

I’m a little too old to have been a Power Rangers fan as a child, but I do appreciate its place in our culture and was exposed to snippets through my friends’ younger siblings. This reboot is hoping to tap into the nostalgia and become the next Transformers rather than GI Joe.

Purists complain of nuances, but that happens in every film adaptation and reboot. Bill Hader, Bryan Cranston, and Elizabeth Banks bring star power to this tale of teens given super powers and compelled to save the world.

15. Baywatch

baywatch 2017

If you were alive during the 90s, you’re fully aware of Baywatch and how it spawned/revived the careers of Pamela Anderson, David Hasselhoff, and so many more. With Trump being elected President, the climate is ripe to make a movie out of it.

I wouldn’t even be surprised if this film adaptation starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Zac Efron, and Kelly Rohrbach were in Oscar contention. I’m being sarcastic, but we’re all still going to watch it for the eye candy alone.

14. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

Dead Men Tell No Tales

Dead Men Tell No Tales is the fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie and, as can be expected, stars Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush, and Orlando Bloom, along with newcomers like Javier Bardem as Capitan Salazar.

If you’re a fan of the Pirates franchise, this movie is unlikely to let you down, bringing extra twists to the same tried-and-true formula.

13. Transformers: The Last Knight

Transformers The Last Knight

Another fifth movie in a franchise, The Last Knight brings Michael Bay’s run with The Transformers to an end. Decepticons and Autobots will continue waging war over earth with some mind-blowing computer animation.

Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci, Josh Duhamel, and Tyrese Gibson are among the returning cast ready to join the robots in battle. Check it out June 23, 2017.

12. Star Wars: Episode VIII

Star Wars Episode 8

It’s a Star Wars movie…

11. John Wick: Chapter 2

John Wick Volume 2

In 2014, Keanu Reeves continues impressing critics and audiences alike with John Wick, the neo-noir story of a legendary retired hitman seeking vengeance for the theft of his car and killing of his puppy.

Expect more stylistic action as Reeves, Common, Laurance Fishburne, and John Leguizamo tear up the screen in the sequel in which Wick helps a former associate take control over an assassin’s syndicate.

10. Rock That Body

Rock That Body Cast

Not much is known about this comedy, but the cast is enough to salivate. Scarlett Johansson, Kate McKinnon (SNL), Zoe Kravitz (Broad City), and Jillian Bell (Workaholics) are among the comedians in this story of a dead male stripper at a bachelorette party.

If you’re a fan of comedy, this looks to be the next Bridesmaids/Hangover franchise.

9. Jumanji

Dwayne Johnson is teaming up with Nick Jonas for a reboot of the classic Robin Williams film about a board game that’s a portal to a jungle world.

It’ll be in IMAX 3D, have a tribute to Williams, and also stars Karen Gillan and Kevin Hart. There’s nothing not to like about Jumanji.

8. Blade Runner 2049

Blade Runner 2017

Blade Runner is highly regarded as one of the best science fiction movies (or movies of any genre for that matter) to ever be released. Blade Runner 2049 is a long-awaited sequel set 30 years after the original neo-noir futuristic thriller.

Harrison Ford reprises his role and works alongside Ryan Gosling, Jared Leto, and more. 2049 looks to make Blade Runner accessible to today’s movie-going audiences.

7. Spider-Man: Homecoming

Spiderman Homecoming

Sony’s again rebooting the Spider Man franchise, this time allowing the character to be integrated into the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe. Starring Tom Holland (who played the web crawler in Civil War)

Expect this new reboot to be much better than the previous two installments now that Marvel is involved a bit more. Although we can all agree Marisa Tomei is entirely too hot to be Aunt May.

6. Justice League

Justice League 2017

Batman v Superman was arguably a disjointed mess, but that’s because Zach Snyder had no choice but to pack a ton into a short period of time to catch up to Marvel’s Avengers initiative. This superhero team-up should be a much more focused effort.

Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, and Jesse Eisenberg all reprise their roles, along with the rest of the cast ready to face off against an even worse enemy than Doomsday – Steppenwofl and his army of Parademons.

5. It

pennywise

Stephen King’s classic 1986 novel was adapted into a miniseries that still stands as one of the best ever televised. Now it’s being remade again so kids in the modern age can know what it’s like to be scared of clowns.

It is the story of Pennywise, a clown who exploits the fears of children while hunting them down to kill.

4. War for the Planet of the Apes

The third installment of the rebooted Planet of the Apes franchise, War for the Planet of the Apes follows the events of Caesar and his ape army fighting the army of humans attempting to secure Earth’s future for their species.

Starring Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson, Steve Zahn, and Judy Greer, expect more of the same as this series evolves. One can only hope it stays this consistently good throughout.

3. The Mummy

Not one to miss out on the idea of shared universes, Universal is rebooting the classic Mummy series to be part of its Universal Monsters shared universe that will eventually encompass vampires, werewolves, zombies, and more.

This version of the popular Mummy series stars Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, and Russell Crowe and will set the tone for the rest of the movies to come. Expect a mix of action, horror, and even some humor.

2. Thor: Ragnarok

Thor Ragnarok

It’s Thor vs Hulk. We all love watching Thor and Hulk fight, and Ragnarok will deliver. Other than that, we’ll see some more revelations in the MCU, but really we just wanna see Thor and Hulk smash everything to pieces trying to hurt each other.

1. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

But where the MCU really starts to progress is in Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, and the rest of the cast return to show what happens 2 months after the first film ends with Quill and the gang destroying Ronin and saving the world.

In addition to returning characters, we’re sure to see plenty of new ones as we run on a collision course toward the Infinity Wars. GotG 2 is a must-see for anyone interested in anything space, animals, Disney, marvel, or fun.
