Netflix has come a long way since its start in 1997. For the past five years, its library of Netflix Original programming grew exponentially.
So much new content is released that it can be hard knowing what to watch. Here are the top 10 best Netflix Originals released in 2018.
10. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Season 4
Release Date: May 30, 2018
Starring: Ellie Kemper, Tituss Burgess, Jane Krakowski
Now several years out of the bunker, Kimmy still struggles to adjust to the 21st century. Thankfully she has her friends to keep her…ummm….grounded?
9. Dear White People Season 2
Release Date: May 4, 2018
Starring: Logan Browning, Brandon P. Bell, Antoinette Robertson
The history of Winchester is revealed throughout a season that takes the drama from season one up a few notches. Also the season ends with a peak at the narrator we’ve been listening to this whole time.
8. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Season 1
Release Date: October 26, 2018
Starring: Kiernan Shipka, Ross Lynch, Lucy Davis
Like Riverdale, Sabrina takes Archie comics into darker territory, following Disney’s cinematic lead. This is the most fantastic witch tale that doesn’t involve Voldemort.
7. Maniac Season 1
Release Date: September 21, 2018
Starring: Emma Stone, Jonah Hill, Justin Theroux
A man and woman find themselves systematically tortured by a pharmaceutical company determined to invalidate talk therapy. Follow them through a surreal experience that makes you wonder who’s really sane in this world.
6. Arrested Development Season 5
Release Date: May 29, 2018
Starring: Jason Bateman, Jessica Walter, Portia de Rossi
The Bluth family continues impressing fans with a roller coaster ride. We’ve only seen the first half of the season so far, but it clearly learned from the failings of season 5 (which was still great, despite what critics say).
5. Love Season 3
Release Date: March 9, 2018
Starring: Gillian Jacobs, Paul Rust, Claudia O’Doherty
The final season of Judd Apatow’s romantic series explores a variety of themes around sex, addiction, humiliation, and the fragility of the male ego. Breaking up with this show was hard to do this summer.
4. Glow Season 2
Release Date: June 29, 2018
Starring: Alison Brie, Betty Gilpin, Marc Maron
After the successful airing of the first episode, the ladies try to keep up with the fast pace their lives are changing at. Protests by women’s groups, contract disputes, and interpersonal drama force everyone to reassess why they’re in this game in the first place.
3. Insatiable Season 1
Release Date: August 10, 2018
Starring: Debby Ryan, Dallas Roberts, Alyssa Milano
Retarded critics everywhere stood on soapboxes and hated on this brilliant soap opera-inspired tale in a sad, pathetic, (and ultimately failed) attempt to make some sort of political statement in entertainment. Audiences didn’t care, and we all love this show, no matter how much idiot snowflakes try to say otherwise, making a massive gap in critic and audience ratings for this gem. Fuck critics – watch Insatiable – it’s so good, and anyone who says otherwise is a close-minded piece of human shit.
2. Dirty Money Season 1
Release Date: January 26, 2018
Starring: Alex Gibney, Adam Del Do, Stacey Offman
This documentary series proves Netflix still understands its core audience. Stand-up specials and documentaries were the platform’s specialties long before it become the juggernaut it is today. This return to form explores corruption and greed in a variety of industries as people break every rule to achieve the American dream at everyone else’s expense.
1. Disenchantment Season 1
Release Date: August 17, 2018
Starring: Abbi Jacobson, Eric Andre, Noel Fielding
Matt Groening already conquered the present and future with The Simpsons and Futurama. Now he’s back with the funniest animated series on Netflix or any other network (sans Rick and Morty…for now). What starts off feeling like a theme episode of The Simpsons ends up being a witty, sharp, and engaging fantasy romp easily on the level of Shrek.
