Top 10 On-Screen Superheroes of All-Time These superheroes captured our hearts over the generations...

It doesn’t matter if you prefer Marvel or DC – what matters in life is that you enjoy superhero films. These movies are the new monster movie, and they’ve fascinated us for several decades.

Not all movies are created equal, and just because a superhero works in cartoons, video games, books, etc., doesn’t mean the movie will be good.

These ten heroes fought through the box office and ruled audiences over the span of their careers. Check out the best movie superheroes ever to hit the screen.

10. Superman

Man of Steel Superman

Movies: Superman, Superman II-IV, Supergirl, Superman Returns, Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League, Shazam!, The Death of Superman, Superman: Unbound, Reign of the Supermen, Superman/Batman: Apocalypse
Actors: Henry Cavill, Christopher Reeve, Matt Bomer, George Reeves, Mark Harmon, Kirk Alyn, Brandon Routh
Best Quote: a

Superman is one of the original superheroes and star of one of the most expensive comic books ever made.

9. Spawn

Movies: Spawn (1997, 2020)
Actors: Michael Jai White
Best Quote: Aren’t there any normal people left on Earth, or is everybody just back from hell?

Spawn was created by Todd McFarlane after noticing there weren’t enough black superheroes. Black Panther gets all the glory (and it’s deserved), but Spawn made it in a different age of Hollywood. A new film is in the works, and it promises to be a hellish ride (in more ways than one).

8. Kick-Ass

Kick-Ass 2010 Movie

Movies: Kick-Ass, Kick-Ass 2
Actors: Aaron Taylor-Johnson
Best Quote: If you think I would have to survive cause I’m talking to you now… Stop being such a smart ass.

Kick-Ass is what most of us would probably look like trying to be superheroes. He’s living in a gritty world, but he still dresses like a comic book hero. These movies still stick out as bright lights in the superhero genre for their mix of humor and the dark reality of super-violence.

7. David Dunn

Movies: Unbreakable, Split, Glass
Actors: Bruce Willis
Best Quote: I don’t belong here.

M. Night Shyamalan gifted movie fans with a lot, including an original trilogy featuring the only superhero on this list that actually originated in movies. Dunn’s story feels more grounded in reality, partially because we weren’t prepared for his appearance. It’s everything NBC’s Heroes series should have been.

6. Deadpool

Uh oh…Deadpool didn’t like Ted 2…

Movies: Deadpool, Deadpool 2, X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Actors: Ryan Reynolds
Best Quote:Yeah. That is a gun in my pants. But that doesn’t mean I’m not happy to see you…

Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson is the perfect casting, and these movies keep raising the stakes and managing to stick out in a crowded superhero movie market. Deadpool breaks the fourth wall repeatedly, and even the marketing feels fresh, crossing boundaries like Hollywood never before dared.

5. Black Panther

Movies: Black Panther, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War
Actors: Chadwick Boseman
Best Quote: I will not abandon someone to die when I have the means to save his life.

4. Spider-Man

Spiderman Homecoming

Movies: Spider-Man (1977, 1978, 2002), Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man 3, The Amazing Spider-Man, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
Actors: Nicholas Hammond, Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, Tom Holland, Shameik Moore
Best Quote:That’s a cute outfit, did your husband get it for you?

Spider-Man is Marvel’s “aww shucks” good guy who appeals to younger audiences. He was my favorite superhero growing up because he was always getting in trouble at school and work for saving the world. His movie presence has ups and downs, but its still a solid filmography.

3. Hellboy

Movies: Hellboy (2004, 2019), Hellboy II: The Golden Army, Hellboy: Blood and Iron, Hellboy: Sword of Storms, Hellboy Animated
Actors: Ron Perlman, David Harbour
Best Quote: I can promise you two things: One, I’ll always look this good, and two I’ll never give up on you.

Hellboy is a dark horse in the superhero world, a fitting position for one of Dark Horse Comics’ most popular characters. He’s wisecracking, cynical, and fun to watch beat up on demons twenty times his size. The first two live-action movies are still very fun to watch, despite the graphics not aging terribly well. Hellboy is a cult classic for a reason.

2. Captain America

captain america winter soldier

Movies: Captain America (1944, 1990), Captain America: The First Avenger, The Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame
Actors: Dick Purcell, Matt Salinger, Chris Evans
Best Quote: The moment you think you know what’s going on in a woman’s head is the moment your goose is well and truly cooked

Captain America is a corny concept, but the comics dealt with interesting enough issues that he stuck around, despite the corny early movies. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Captain America movies are hands down the best. Let’s see if Thanos resets everything.

1. Batman

Movies: Batman (1943, 1966, 1989), Batman and Robin (1949, 1997), Batman Returns, Batman Forever, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, Justice League, Joker, The Lego Movie, The Lego Batman Movie

Actors: Lewis G. Wilson, Robert Lowery, Adam West, Michael Keaton, Val KilmerGeorge Clooney, Christian Bale, Ben Affleck, Will Arnett, Kevin Conroy
Best Quote: I won’t kill you, but I don’t have to save you.

Let’s face it – Bruce Wayne is unrelatable, so it’s not so bad watching his parents die a million deaths every time there’s a new series released. Batman, however, is a vigilante who brings justice (and honestly epic movies) everywhere he goes. Let the Dark Knight reign supreme!
