Arizona is digitizing its medical marijuana cards effective December 1, 2019 and will be emailing PDF cards to cardholders instead of a physical card. This follows the August 27, 2019 decision to extend the licensing period to two years. The move is meant to make life easier for Arizona’s medical marijuana patients like myself.
This is a positive sign as the state moves toward 2020 recreational cannabis legalization efforts fueled by Canadian investments in the state’s legal pot industry.
Patients across Arizona should find these changes make it easier to purchase legal medicinal weed for cheap prices. Pricing has been slowly becoming more affordable in the state, despite early market price gouging and lack of consistent testing standards.
If you want to maintain a physical card, you can always print the PDF and laminate it for your wallet, and you’ll be asked to update your email address to get your digital card on or around December 1, 2019. Here’s the full email I received tonight from the Arizona Department of Health Services regarding the new digital MMJ cards.
To better serve the State of Arizona, the Department of Health Services is modernizing its technology systems. As of December 1st, 2019, you will have digital access to your medical marijuana card.
Access to your digital cards will be sent to the primary email address provided when you completed your initial application or last renewal. It is important that your email address is unique to you and not shared between multiple parties.
The State asks that you follow these 3-easy steps to ensure your email is up to date.
1) Visit the Arizona Department of Health Services Medical Marijuana Online Registry, select “Applications” from the left toolbar and then “Application Update (Email and Phone Number Only –No Fee)” (or go to https://medicalmarijuana.azdhs.gov/MyProfile.aspx)
2) Fill in the required information and select “Validate” on the bottom left-hand corner
3) Complete the required fields to ensure your email address is current and select, “Update”
If your email is not updated prior to December 1st, 2019 you can still use your physical medical marijuana card. If you file any type of application after December 1st, 2019 (including a Lost/Stolen application, Change application, or Renewal application), you will be issued a digital card and your physical card will no longer be a valid form of identification related to your access to medical marijuana in Arizona.
If you have questions about updating your email address, please feel free to contact us by email or phone.
