What is TRON (TRX)? Tron is an ambitious project often compared to Ethereum and NEO, but can it stand?

What Is TRON (TRX)?

TRON (TRX) is a next-generation blockchain platform providing streaming content, cloud storage, and other online services. It is essentially creating the next-gen peer-to-peer internet envisioned in HBO’s Silicon Valley TV series. Tronix (TRX) is proprietary ERC-20 crypto token used by the platform for tokenized transactions, which is in its Odyssey phase of development. Great Voyage and Apollo are the next development phases, which will expand development features.

Who Is Tron?

TRON was created by Justin Sun, current CEO of BitTorrent. The P2P technology used by BitTorrent was the final evolution of Napster and Gnutella file sharing. Although streaming took over, many people (myself included) still use BitTorrent for file transfers. The Singapore-based Tron Foundation, Justin Sun’s Sun Network, and BitTorrent are creating a fascinating ecosystem.

Use Cases of Tron

TRON is being used in a variety of applications, including video game development, esports (Unikrn), sports streaming (i.e. Liverpool FC), and even web development (Opera). A variety of financial, government, institutional, healthcare, retail, and other partners are jumping aboard, especially in the Asia Pacific region of the world.

On top of this, BitTorrent is already used by pirates and file-sharing enthusiasts. A variety of third-party BitTorrent clients are already installed on large numbers of computers.

How to Mine TRX

Tronix (TRX) isn’t mined, as it’s an ERC-20 token. The total supply is 99,281,283,754 TRX, and it reached an all-time high of $0.300363 on January 5, 2018, according to CoinMarketCap.

Hodling TRX in a supported wallet, like Binance or MyEtherWallet, earns BTT deposits as well.

Learn More About Tron (TRX)

If you want to learn more about the Tron blockchain, check out this basic starter guide on Lifewire. It’s a great tech site focusing on mainstream tech, so the inclusion of TRON is a great sign of things to come. I actually have a byline page on Lifewire myself, so I know it (and DotDash) is great.
