Streaming Video Statistics to Know in 2018

Streaming video is becoming more and more popular as people cut the cord and stop paying for cable subscriptions. An eMarketer report estimates 5 million people will cancel cable in 2018, bringing the total cord cutter count to 27.1 million.

That’s in addition to 36.3 million who never had cable, bringing the total of people choosing streaming services over cable to 63.4 million people in 2018.

With that said, we’re going to review some important statistics to know on the major streaming video services: Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, and YouTube.

Netflix Statistics

1. Netflix users watched 140 million hours per day, and 1 billion hours per week in 2017.

2. The average Netflix user watches 60 movies a year.

3. The biggest Netflix streaming day is January 1.

4. Netflix has 117.6 million subscribers as of January 2018.

5. 54.77 million Netflix subscribers live in the United States.

6. 23% of U.S. adults stream Netflix daily.

7. Netflix users avoid watching 160 hours of ads per year by using the service.

8. Netflix will spend approximately $7 billion for content in 2018.
