How to dose cannabis

Most recreational and medical states count a dose as 10 mg, which isn’t enough for me. I need at least 20 mg to feel anything if I haven’t smoked in a few weeks, and 60+ if I’ve been high for a while.

To help you visualize 10 mg, there are 1000 mg in a gram, so when you buy a gram of really good medicinal marijuana buds (20-25% THC), you’re getting 200-250 mg of THC. Except most of it is destroyed in the burning process, so you’re probably getting half that if you smoke the full gram.

How much do you need to smoke to get high? If you’re a one-hitter quitter, 10 mg is plenty, but most people will need much more.

So the question really is, how much THC can you tolerate?

A good way to find out is using a tincture with controlled dosages. Try a few more drops every 10 minutes until you’re high, then subtract a dose to account for the time it takes to kick in. That’ll help you visualize the high when looking at edibles (or dosing your own).

Also, if making your own, be sure to activate the THC first, unless making something like candy, which requires high-heat cooking anyway.
