Checking out my whiskey collection

I hate to brag, but I’m really good at it (bragging, that is). No matter how much of a whiskey/whisky/scotch/bourbon snob you are, I’ve likely got something in my collection to satisfy you.

That’s because I spent a year reviewing whiskies just to see what it’s like. Turns out, it’s kind of a pain in the ass. Everything tastes a little different, but trying to pick out those different wood flavors and whether it’s hints of caramel, vanilla, or just straight butt is difficult.

Put together a quick video introducing the collection, with unique whiskeys from Japan, France, Ireland, Scotland, Canada, and the U.S. I have low-end to top-shelf whiskies, bourbons, and scotches and can tell you a lot about them all.

It’s interesting to me how much I learned about the marketing of these bottles. The whisky is inevitably similar. They each use different grains, like rye or corn. But overall, a $20 bottle is not much different than a $200 bottle, besides the name.

Of course, age has something to do with it, and the way they make it will affect the overall flavor. But if you put me in a blind taste test, I could probably pick out what type of whisky it is, but I’m unlikely to know the brand and year. I feel like sommeliers are faking it.

Sazerac is one of my favorite drinking whiskeys for the highball. It’s a great rye whiskey from Louisiana and sold by Buffalo Trace Distillery. It got featured in Brockmire, and I love Hank Azaria, so it became my new Jack Daniels. JD was my go-to whiskey for many years because of my dad’s love for it.

Of course, that’s all more affordable whiskey. I have some heavy hitters too – my most expensive whiskey at the moment is the Glenlivet Archive 21.

Each of these whiskies (or scotches or bourbons) has a unique design and recipe. They all have unique flavors, depending on what’s in the mash and how they produce and age it. For me, it’s just nice having bottles of liquor that are old enough to drink their own bottles of liquor.

I think it’s important for people to have a wide array of hobbies, and whiskey is just one of many things I studied over the past decade. I’m also a fan of cannabis, wine, sex, and vaping. Check out the rest of this site to learn more about all your favorite vices.
