Two types of whistleblowers

you can divide whistleblowing into external and internal. You can also divide them by government and corporate.

Corporate whistleblowers are typically filing claims on behalf of the government.

Government whistleblowers are filing claims against the government.

These are just the legal definitions, so that brings us to the division of whistleblowers by legal and illegal. That’s where whistleblowers like Edward Snowden and Chelsea Manning get caught up.

Unfortunately, what Snowden and Manning did was leak information to the media. This means they don’t qualify for whistleblower protections. That’s why they’re still being mistreated as criminals to this day.
