What is a DMT trip like?

Deep in the Amazon forests, a psychedelic plant called Ayahuasca is used in Shamanistic ceremonies to clear the mind and reach another state of consciousness. The active ingredient, Dimethyltryptamine, or DMT, is gaining recognition throughout spiritual circles and burner communities worldwide.

Being on a gonzo trip around the United States West Coast, I had to try it…
DMT is found in every human being, and it’s also found in plants. The extraction process is similar to that of cocaine, opium, or THC. The difference is DMT is a hallucinogen.

Known as “the spirit module,” your body will release DMT at two points in your lifetime – birth and death.

During the Amazon ceremonies, documentaries show the Ayahuasca being drank as tea, but, having spent a considerable amount of time exploring the marijuana industry for Ross Urken, the extract was going to be vaped in a dab rig with a ceramic nail and butane torch, just like a dab of cannabis concentrate.

“We’re about to send Brian to see the aliens…” I hear in the house as I smoke a cigarette and prepare for what I’m about to experience. Turns out my guide knows exactly where he’s sending me…

Upon heating the nail, my guide poured ~55mg of the fine, beige powder into the dab rig as I hit the bong like the two bowls of White Russian herb and Lamb’s Breath shatter. Following my instructions, I pulled away after my initial hit to hold it in, covering the mouth of the bong to avoid losing any vapor.

Upon exhaling and going in for the second inhalation, I felt the adrenaline hit my heart. I quickly cleared the bong, exhaled, and laid down on the couch to see if this really is what I think it is…

“Hit the music, honey. He’s got about 10 seconds” I hear my guide tell his wife, as a slow beat starts to envelope me, and the bright highlighter colors those raver kids recreate with their molly started to dance around me and become my reality.
The colors begin to take familiar shape, grooving and pulsating to the music. I exist on a new plane now – the everyplane…I’m existing simultaneously in every realm and possibility in the multiverse.

I have to explain it to my guide – he was right about everything…I was right about everything…holy shit my inner voice is detached from my body…The only thing keeping my brain attached to this world right now is my fear of crossing over…

In the 90’s, we had a show called Sliders where Jerry O’Connell and his ragtag group traveled through the multiverse through wormholes. Although South Park mimicked StargateforImaginationland, Family Guy uses the Slidersinterdimensional travel concept for their multiverse.

Either way, that’s where I found myself looking at as my arms disappear into comic-book-style cut frames and I realize I just stumbled upon Rick and Morty‘s TV tuner that can take me to a roulette wheel of every random possibility.

I close my eyes and feel the energy from the wormhole try to suck me from this existence, and I quickly open my eyes again. The trip isn’t over – nothing is going to stop this ride until the music stops.

I have to maintain balance and meditate. I need to relax and feel the tension release from my shoulders. I’ve been trying to get this to happen for months.

Try to enjoy it, Brian.
I can see my future again through the eyes of my past self. Those dreams I had when I was a kid started coming true since I left the bank, and it’s been freaking me out. I was just a kid…then a young man, a banker, then a whistleblower.

Since then nothing’s been the same. I need to let go of my fears, accept my destiny, learn to enjoy the ride…and fully accept my inevitable crossing over. I only ever did it once before…nearly 34 years ago…and the further away I get from it, the more I fear that feeling.

It’s not going to be this trip that I go where I truly want to go. This trip is just to renew my passion and remind me of all the warmth that energy brings. I don’t need to fear wielding my powers and jumping into these wormholes.

I don’t have to fear crossing over into another reality..and it’s going to happen no matter what I do, even if I do nothing at all, so the best thing I can do is–
A joker grin spread across my face, and I started laughing hysterically as the music faded, the reality we share started to materialize again. My spirit guide and his wife sat up in sync with the experience, genuine smiles on their faces and warmth in their hearts.

“I love you,” I said brightly, before excitedly chatting about the epiphany…
